Job Summary:
The Concussion Specialist will be responsible for providing specialized care, diagnosis, treatment, and management of concussions and related head injuries within the field of sports medicine. This role requires in-depth knowledge of concussion assessment protocols, rehabilitation techniques, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the optimal recovery and safety of athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose and evaluate concussions, using evidence-based protocols and tools.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for athletes with concussions, considering their specific needs, sport, and stage of recovery.
- Collaborate with team physicians, athletic trainers, coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care for athletes.
- Provide education and guidance to athletes, their families, and coaching staff regarding concussion prevention, recognition, and management.
- Monitor and document the progress of athletes undergoing concussion rehabilitation, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including injury reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and communication with other healthcare professionals.
- Stay informed about the latest research, guidelines, and advancements in concussion management, and apply this knowledge to improve the quality of care provided.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to concussion management within the sports medicine department.
- Participate in continuing education, conferences, and professional development activities to enhance expertise in concussion assessment and treatment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or a related field. Master's or Doctorate degree preferred.
- Certification as a Concussion Specialist or equivalent, such as the ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainer (ITAT) or Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS).
- Minimum of [X] years of experience working directly with concussions in a sports medicine or athletic training setting.
- Extensive knowledge of concussion assessment tools, such as the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT), Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT), or other validated measures.
